2011: Animal Girl

It's time for my 2011 Style Direction:
I wrote a style direction last year as well, and I got the idea from this, which inspired me to do the same thing. Last year was the year of the Wild Child.
This year, it is the reign of the
Animal Girl.
Leather boots, floating silhouettes, tousled hair, a bracelet with a sun charm, a turquoise ring, holey jeans, braids, feathers and seashells, a compass on a chain, sailor's knots, wildlife t-shirts, neon sunglasses and colorful scarves, thigh-highs, ribbons and leather cords wound around her wrist, lacy bras, band t-shirts, short dresses and denim shorts, lace, velvet, wool, crimson, burgundy, neon orange, icy bright blue, neon green...
Who is this Animal Girl, who walks around like she knows the world?
Her  handmade schoolbag rattles with books, but also with her sketchbook that she stitched herself, some strawberry lip balm, and no more than three dollars. Ever.
Midnight pomegranate, sweet pea, and wild honeysuckle perfumes waft from her person.

She dreams and draws in fish scales, fairy tales and folklore, circles, rorschach test images, spikes, jagged edges, dripping, lips and fangs, neon mountains, gold sunshine, waterfalls, neon trees, huge beautiful forests, bursting sunrises,  toadstools and green moss.

Miniature plastic animals stand guard over her desk while clean white curtains billow in the breeze.
Old quilts, crocheted coverlets,  and granny squares adorn her bed, and colorful paper snowflakes, and drawings hang on her walls.

Her hair is long, near her last rib, and she's got blue eyes like the ocean she loves so much. She beat up a boy once and she's not afraid to do it again. She doesn't know whether she's good or bad at dancing, but she loves it just the same. She explores the forest with wonder at how tall every tree is, how green every grass is. She draws and sews and writes and bakes and collages and takes pictures, and has all the adventures a teenager can expect. She can't resist a song by Fall Out Boy, takes every opportunity to play on a playground, is learning archery, and keeps her room neat as a pin.
Some people are afraid of her, and maybe they should be. She's a good person, but she's got a bite to her, and she won't tolerate stupidity the way others might. Sometimes she is shy and she keeps herself, other times she just wants be alone.
Sounds like a big box of contradictions, right?
How could this all wrap up and fit into one person?
Easy.
Animal Girl.

Yep. I'm exploring a darker side for 2011, as opposed to last year, which was a bit lighter. Ilove writing these, they are so fun to make. Did you like mine? You should write our own and let me know about it!
Love and galaxies,
M
